  • Speakers Todd Sampson

    Todd is an adventurer, award-winning documentary-maker, television presenter and businessman. He is the co-creator of the Earth Hour initiative, one of the largest environmental movements in history. The Financial Review and News Limited ranked him as one of the most influential executives in Australia. Todd sits on the Board of Directors of both Fairfax and Qantas. 

    Todd is also the breakout star of the hit ABC show the Gruen Planet and a co-host on the Channel 10 news show, The Project. He is the writer, producer and host of the award-winning documentary series Redesign My Brain, Discovery International adventure-science series, BodyHack and most recently Life on the Line. 

    Outside of work, Todd enjoys mountaineering and has climbed to the top of Mount Everest unguided.

    Entrepreneur and investor

    Tech start-up investor Steve Baxter is a proud Queenslander who enlisting as apprentice in the Army at age 15. There, he became a technician working in the field of electronics, telecoms and guided weapon systems. In 1994, Steve launched internet service provider SE Net, from the spare room of his Adelaide home. In 2001, Steve teamed with a schoolmate to launch his second start-up, PIPE Networks. In 2008, Steve spent a year working with Google in California in 2008, leading a project to deliver high-speed telecommunications systems across North America. Since 2010 he has become a major early stage investor in startups, been a Shark on Channel 10’s Shark Tank Australia and in 2016 received the Pearcey Medal for Lifetime Achievement.

    Alex first joined Animal Logic in 2004 and is currently head of IT with teams in Sydney, Vancouver and Los Angeles. His teams manage the day-to-day IT operations and infrastructure needed to produce movie magic of the highest quality on a consistent basis. Alex was responsible for the deployment and managment of large computer clusters of up to 35,000 cores in both Windows and Linux environments. He also delivered multiple world class, high density containerised data centres, virtualised infrastructure and dealt with enormous growth and contraction during the production of multiple animated features, including the Oscar winning Happy Feet, The LEGO® Movie and most recently The LEGO® Batman Movie.
