What is AC Coupling?

AC coupling, when relating to Solar installations, is the use of a grid tie inverter connected to either the load side or the grid connection side of a hybrid inverter (such as a Conext XW+) for use in providing an additional power source to a property/installation.

When using a grid tie inverter on the load side of a hybrid inverter, the size of the grid tie inverter should not exceed the capacity of the hybrid inverter. The grid tie inverter should also support frequency shifting (such as the Conext RL inverters) so that the hybrid inverter can derate the grid tie inverter when the additional power is not needed.
